Randy R. Gordon, 35, of 435 Fairview Ave., Russells Point, was charged with burglary Sunday related to an incident at a Township Road 29, East Liberty, address that afternoon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:55 p.m. to the residence on a report from the resident that his property had been entered while he was home.
The resident said he was familiar with the subject who allegedly entered his home, and identified him as Gordon. He said the suspect had left in a tan vehicle after a second individual at the home chased after him.
The second individual also told deputies that Gordon struck him with his vehicle while backing up, which knocked him to the ground, but did not cause serious injuries.
Deputies said Gordon was located at his mother’s address in Zanesfield. Gordon told deputies he went to the T.R. 29 residence to “get a tool” so he could work on a car. He said he knocked at the door and upon receiving no answer, went back to his vehicle.
The defendant said one of the individuals at the home then came up to his vehicle and broke his driver’s side window. He was placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
• Kevin S. Carter, 40, of address at large, was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct related to an incident Sunday evening at Winner’s Lakeview Market, 13840 N. State Route 235, Lakeview.
Deputies responded to the business about 8:55 p.m., along with a Washington Township Police Department officer, on a complaint of a man with a machete.
Upon arrival, deputies observed Carter sitting on a parking block and noticed he had a backpack with what appeared to be the handle of a machete sticking out from it. He was instructed to leave the backpack and walk toward deputies, and he complied.
Deputies spoke with the market manager, who reported that Carter had been inside the business that day and created a disturbance. He was asked to go outside, where he continued yelling and the manager said she became concerned customer safety because he had the machete.
The defendant was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail.
Driver charged with OVI
Keelyn J. Zell, 27, of 3866 E. State Route 274, Rushsylvania, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Deputies on patrol about 2:40 a.m. in the area of State Route 273 observed Zell’s vehicle with the driver’s side tires on the center line as it negotiated a curve. Deputies said the vehicle stopped at the stop sign of U.S. Route 68 and then continued eastbound through the intersection. A speed violation was observed and deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of County Road 5.
Deputies said Zell displayed signs of impairment and field sobriety tests were conducted. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located several open cans of beer in the trunk and an unopened can of beer in the center console. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he refused to submit to a breath test.
He also was cited for speed and was released to a sober party.
Driver treated for possible injuries after crash
Max R. Morrison, 29, of Lima, was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in a crash Sunday afternoon in Huntsville.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound Chevrolet Equinox on Lima Street approaching Napoleon Street about 4:05 p.m. and he stated he was texting. Morrison said he looked up and saw a southbound 2019 Ford Fiesta in front of him operated by Robert R. Brewer, 42, of Washington Courthouse, that was stopped at the stop light.
Morrison reportedly swerved to the right to avoid the Brewer vehicle, but then struck a Logan County Electric Cooperative pole.
No other injuries were reported. Morrison was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, and deputies said impaired driving appeared to a factor on his behalf as well.
Damage was heavy to the Morrison vehicle and moderate to the Brewer vehicle.
