A Wapakoneta man has been charged by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department with first-degree felony aggravated burglary following investigation of a reported assault that occurred Friday at the Super 8 motel, 1117 N. Main St.
Benjamin Wrasman, 37, allegedly assaulted a female victim in her hotel room while she was sitting her grandchild.
When officers arrived on scene just before 9 p.m. a male witness had chased after and subdued the suspect outside the hotel at the rear of the property in a deep culvert near a large drain pipe.
Wrasman was immediately found to be intoxicated and under the influence of alcohol. He was secured in handcuffs and placed in an officer’s cruiser. The female victim and witnesses were interviewed.
The victim told police the suspect knocked on her door and she opened it slightly because the suspect looked similar to hotel staff at the front desk.
Once she opened the door, Wrasman reportedly forced himself on top of her chest, and struck her multiple times in the cheek and mouth with a closed first. Lacerations and swelling were observed to the woman’s face.
The female victim told police he was carrying a bottle of vodka with him, and the glass shattered on the floor of the hotel room when he started to assault her. She reported to officers that she believed she was being raped.
Her yelling drew the attention of other guests, and the suspect soon attempted to flee the scene. He tried to hide first in a maintenance closet before attempting to leave the property, but was also ultimately chased and pinned down before he could get away.
Police report that en route to Logan County Jail, the suspect expressed concern that his family would be “really upset with him,” and that he didn’t want the victim to think he was a “monster.”
