A city man was arrested on drug possession and tampering with evidence charges after throwing a suspicious bag on top of the awning outside the Comfort Inn, 260 Northview Drive, early today.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to investigate a loud argument outside the hotel bar at 1:55 a.m.
During questioning Frank V. Jonathan Barnes, 35, of 212 Pearce Ave., became agitated and threw items from his pockets, including several small plastic bags. He quickly collected the bags, approached the building and threw them into the air, landing on top of the awning.
The Bellefontaine Fire Department was called to provide a ladder and the bags, which contained suspected crack cocaine, were retrieved from the roof.
Mr. Barnes was taken to the Logan County Jail.
Motorist arrested for OVI
Gary L.D. Burnside, 29, of 2433 E. Township Road 190, was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and other charges after an 11:50 p.m. Wednesday traffic stop in the 1700 block of south Main Street.
Officers recorded a southbound minivan traveling 45 mph in the 35-mph zone and saw it the vehicle weaving before making the traffic stop. The driver was visibly impaired and field sobriety tests indicated he was intoxicated.
He was taken into custody.
A breath test administered at the police department returned results in excess of 0.20 or more than twice the legal blood alcohol content.
Officers filed the OVI charge and cited him for speeding, marked lanes, turn signal and seat belt violations. He was released to a sober friend.
