Jerrold A. Wills, 63, of 440 Colton Ave., was charged Friday with felony child endangering and possession of drugs and misdemeanor cultivation of marijuana.
At 10 p.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department and Bellefontaine squad personnel were called to his residence on a reported drug overdose.
Wills admitted to abusing fentanyl and he became aggressive with officers and squad personnel. He was taken to ground and handcuffed under the threat that a taser would be used if he did not comply.
His 9-year-old grandson was inside the extremely unsanitary and unkempt home which included stacks of dirty dishes, piles of trash and a toilet filled with feces. Also there were several marijuana plants found growing inside.
The boy’s mother was contacted but did not respond to the residence until 45 minutes had passed, the officers report. She indicated her son was staying primarily with her father and she was not bothered by the unsanitary conditions inside the residence.
Wills was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment. Once he was cleared, he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Charges filed in traffic stops
Larry Piatt III, 27, of 332 S. Detroit St., Apt. C, was charged wit possession of methamphetamine after a 4:30 p.m. traffic stop Friday.
He was stopped for a window tint violation, an officer reported. A meter confirmed the car’s window tint was too dark.
An officer noted Piatt had been recently caught with a pipe used to abuse methamphetamine. A consent search of the car and of Piatt located a small plastic bag of methamphetamine in his wallet.
He was lodged in jail.
• Four teenagers were charged after a 4:25 p.m. traffic stop Saturday in the 200 block of east Sandusky Avenue.
The driver, Logan T. Blosser, 19, of 10711 Township Road 80, Lewistown, was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of marijuana and issued traffic citation for no safety belt.
Cameron M. Slagle, 19, of 13253 State Route 720, Lakeview, was charged with possession of marijuana paraphernalia while Nicholas R. McClain, 17, of rural Urbana, was charged with delinquency possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Dakota A. Blosser, 17, of 10711 Township Road 80, Lewistown, delinquency carrying a concealed weapon. He was wearing a large fixed blade knife in an sheath on his waist and under his coat.
Officers found multiple marijuana products in the car along with two large bongs. They also found 120 prescription allergy pills in pill bottle without a prescription.
McClain was released to his mother while Dakota was allowed to go home with his brother.
• John W. Dunn IV, 33, of 417 Lawrence St., was taken into custody Dec. 31 for no operator’s license. He was stopped around 12:20 p.m. at Community Markets, 309 N. Main St.
He became confrontational with officers, claiming they had no right to stop him for driving without a license. He attempted to walk into the store but was taken into custody.
Officers noted he has six prior convictions for driving without a license.
The van he was driving was impounded after Dunn’s girlfriend arrived to remove two children’s car seats.
Pedestrian hit by SUV
Joseph J. Webb, 57, of Bellefontaine, was transported by a Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle around 2:45 p.m. Dec. 31 at Madriver Street and Sandusky Avenue.
He was attempting to cross Sandusky southward in a crosswalk when he was struck. Mark V. Drown, 61, of Bellefontaine, told officers he was was northbound on Madriver and attempted to turn westbound. He admitted he was concentrating on a vehicle that was stopped southbound waiting to turn westbound.
Drown was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Beer Vault ordered to follow curfew
An officer advised Rick Petty, owner of the Beer Vault, 149 W. Columbus Ave., to shut down operations Dec. 31 after he observed an estimate 200 people inside and drinking alcohol around 10:30 p.m.
The officer conferred with the Ohio Investigative Unit which monitors establishments serving alcohol before approaching Petty.
By 11:50 p.m., the bar was cleared of patrons.
A report of the incident was forwarded to the OIU and the Logan County Health Department.
Women lodged on violations
Macy L. Brown, 30, of 205 Meadowbrook Drive, and Megan E. Clary, 32, of Urbana, each was lodged on probation violations after Clary stole a shirt from Dunham’s Sports, 2061 S. Main St., on Friday.
Clary was charged with theft.
According to police, the two women purchased several clothing items but not the shirt. They soon returned to exchange one of the purchased items but were told to bring back all of the items they left with.
A video showed Clary taking the shirt passed the checkout as the clerk was busy ringing up the other items.
Both women were lodged in jail.
Theft investigation leads to charges
Ernest J. Harber, 31, at large, was arrested Dec. 30 for felony possession of drugs and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and theft.
At 4:55 p.m., officers responded to Speedway, 329 S. Main St., and were told Harber had stolen merchandise from the store. He was located nearby walking nearby and detained for questioning.
A search of his clothing and possessions turned up small plastic bags containing methamphetamine and a glass pipe with burnt ends. His receipt from Speedway did not include a snack food item he was eating when stopped by police.
He was lodged in jail.
Couple face more dog charges
Bradley W. Johnston, 33, and Tracci S. Ritter, 34, both of 420 E. Auburn Ave., each was charged Dec. 30 with animal cruelty. Johnston also was charged with having a dog persistently barking.
Officers were notified around 7:30 p.m. dogs at the residence had been barking for two hours. One dog was found outside in the rear yard soaking wet with no shelter. An officer noted the temperature was 35 degrees Fahrenheit.
The house was dark and no one answered the door when the officer knocked.
It was noted in reports that the couple has been issued summonses for barking dogs and dogs at large several times in recent months.
