‘Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me’ writer joins 2016 lineup
DAVIS |
Today may be April 1, but it is no joke — Mac Davis is coming to Logan County — joining Lewistown native Even Stevens and friends for the fifth annual Nashville Hitmakers concert July 23 at Indian Lake High School.
Those of the mature generation will no doubt recall his style of soulful ballads, like his hit Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me and In the Ghetto, recorded by Elvis Presley, and often comedic tunes such as It’s Hard to be Humble, played on radio and his own television program, The Mac Davis Show, on NBC, and his many televised specials over the years.
He also costarred with Nick Nolte in North Dallas Forty and went on to starring roles in The Sting II, Cheaper to Keep Her and the family film, Possums.
Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Mac moved to Atlanta after graduating high school, and attended Emory University and Georgia State College. Inspired by another Lubbock boy, Buddy Holly, Mac formed a band of his own while in college, and moonlighted playing fraternity parties, high school hops, and local clubs around Atlanta. He established himself as an all around entertainer and has enjoyed success in almost every facet of show business.
