Bill Jones, a 1959 Bellefontaine High School graduate who enjoyed a successful high school football coaching career, passed away July 29.
Jones spent 35 years in coaching, compiling a record of 200-151. He was inducted into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2013. He was also a member of the Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame.
He began his head coaching career at Miami East and then went to Findlay, where he coached from 1973 through 1982. His Findlay teams were 68-33 and his 1975 squad went undefeated.
While at Findlay, he was elected head coach of the North team in the 1976 North-South All-Star Game.
Jones also coached at Zanesville, Genoa, Fairview, Rocky River, Admiral King and Elyria.
He was a four-year letterwinner in football at BHS and went on to quarterback Taylor University to three conference championships.
After college, he returned to Bellefontaine and served as an assistant coach under Gary Moeller.
