Logan County Retired Teachers President Emerson Brown presented six teachers with $250 Lucy Brown Classroom grants during the group’s most recent meeting.
Teachers who will receive grants each for the upcoming school year include: Ryan Kerns, Sarah Beres, Mandy Defibaugh, Brianne Hughes, Sherrie Yoder, Kellea Wilkinson and Andrea Watts.
Madison Taylor was presented to the group by the scholarship committee of Carol and Bill Davis. Madison was awarded this year’s $1,000 scholarship. A graduate of Bellefontaine High School, she will attend Ohio Northern University to major in music education.
Dr. Robin Rayfield, executive director of Ohio Retired Teachers Association, was the featured speaker for the gathering. He informed the local group about the results of the forensic accounting that ORTA paid for of STRS, state teacher’s retirement system.
ORTA is still pursuing STRS to give the cost of living to the members as promised.
B. J. Woodruff, regional representative to ORTA, also attended the meeting.
