The Logan County Fair Board may soon change its bylaws regarding attendance.
During the Wednesday evening regular meeting, the board discussed and then tabled a decision to tighten its attendance policy.
Currently, members can call in and report they are unable to attend a meeting and have an excused absence. They can do this for all 11 meetings of the year and remain on the board.
Members discussed creating a policy that states members must attend at least six meetings per year, or miss no more than three or four meetings, regardless of it is excused or unexcused. If members miss more than their allotted number of meetings, the board can make a decision as to whether or not the member will remain on the board.
The board agreed to apply for an Ohio Department of Agriculture grant which could award up to $50,000 for a project that is still undecided.
Potential avenues for the project include constructing a restroom, an office building or cement flooring for a new building.
The Logan County Farm Bureau Reverse Raffle Agriculture Impact Fund group presented the board with a check for $11,800 for the new show arena.
“This is a project we feel is super important,” said Jill Smith, organization director. “It’s a lot of work and a lot of fun … It’s a way for us to continue to grow our agricultural footprint.”

In other business, the board approved a 2.5 percent raise of Kris Copenhaver, office manager. The raise will result in a little more than $400 to Copenhaver’s salary.
Christie Barns, fair board president, said Copenhaver has been around for two years and has yet to receive a salary increase.
Another fair board member voiced concern about receiving public feedback that was not favorable to Copenhaver.
“Kris (Copenhaver) goes above and beyond,” said Treasurer Kelsey Lininger. “I am fully in favor (of the increase). I don’t want to start over.”
