Registration drive under way to encourage canine owners to register for dog tags
Jack Reser, Logan County Auditor, recognized two winners of the Best Dog in Logan County contest Wednesday afternoon.
Baxter, owned by Keegan Van Horn, and Boomer, owned by Owen Marshall, took the title.
The contest resulted in 67 entries from second graders throughout Logan County.
Owen Marshall said his dog Boomer is the best dog because he runs really fast.
“Boomer’s definitely a cutie,” said Jessica Marshall, Owen’s mother. “He’s very special to us.”
Jessica Marshall said the Best Dog in Logan County contest was a cool event.
“He (Owen) enjoyed it and felt special,” she said.
The contest was also a way to promote awareness about registering dogs.
Brandi Miles, Logan County Dog Warden, said it helps when dogs are registered because then they are able to be returned to their owners more easily if they get lost.
“I just want dogs and everybody to get back together — to be reunited,” she said. “Dogs are part of the family.”
In 2019, more than 6,000 dog tags were sold to owners. Reser estimated that there are actually 10,000 dogs in Logan County, leaving 4,000 unregistered.
It is his hope to continue to increase the amount of registered dogs through public awareness.
Tags are currently on sale for the following prices: $16 for a single year; $48 for three years; $160 for permanent; and $90 for kennel.
After Feb. 1, 2020, the price of the tag will double.
