It was a busy weekend for Bellefontaine’s swim team as it competed in a pair of meets.
The Chiefs first traveled to the Springfield Shawnee Invitational on Saturday, where the girls were second out of 17 teams and the boys were fifth.
“Conditioning teams, like swimming, have to learn to push themselves,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “They push through tired and sore muscles and learn to be mentally tough. This meet was a great example of our mental toughness. Our swimmers had one of the hardest weeks of practice of their season. They were tired, they were sore, but despite that they swam very well and I am incredibly proud of their toughness.”
Freshman Amy Fulmer continued her fantastic rookie season for the Chiefs on Saturday, setting a new school record in the 100 backstroke. She recorded a time of 59.46 to win the event. She also finished first in the 50 freestyle.
The relay group of Amy Fulmer, Molly Schulz, Shelby Starkey and Emily Fulmer won both the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
Emily Fulmer placed second in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 freestyle to help spark the BHS girls.
