Zanesfield Petanque Club member Ziggy Kessouagni recently competed in the Federation of Petanque U.S.A. National Men’s Doubles Qualifier on June 16-17 in Sonoma, Calif. There was 26 teams from all over the United States. The winner of this tournament will be the men’s national team represenative in 2019 for a international competition.
Kessouagni teamed up with Ed Porto of Petaluma Valley Petanque Club (California). After five qualifying games, they were 3-2. They moved on to the top 16 Main tournament where they lost their first pool game 2-13, but came back to win their next two games 13-3 and 13-6.
The duo moved on to the quarterfinals where they pulled out a 13-12 semifinal win. They then lost 13-12 in the finals after having a 12-6 lead and finished in second place.
