Local golfers brought home a lot of Central Buckeye Conference hardware this fall as all four of the player of the year awards went to Logan County golfers.
Chiefs’ Harris, Lakers’ McPherson named CBC golfers of the year
Bellefontaine and Indian Lake’s boys golf teams each had the top golfer in their respective divisions of the Central Buckeye Conference this season.
Chieftain standout Liam Harris was named the Kenton Trail division player of the year, while Laker standout Lane McPherson received the Mad River division player of the year award.
Harris, who was named to the Kenton Trail first team, was the lone Chieftain golfer to earn CBC honors this season.
McPherson and Ben Logan’s Ethan Ricketts both earned Mad River division first-team spots.
Landing spots on the Mad River second team were the Raiders’ Aiden Elsass and Jacob Mitchell.
Local golfers receiving the sportsmanship award were Bellefontaine’s Harris, Ben Logan’s Ricketts and Indian Lake’s Camdon Tuttle.
In the team races, Jonathan Alder won the Kenton Trail division championship and Graham claimed the Mad River division championship.
Also on the Kenton Trail division first-team squad were Jonathan Alder’s Brady Fox, Matthew Fox and Tyler Ogg, Tecumseh’s Pierce Grimpe and Kenton Ridge’s Travis Houseman.
Making up the Kenton Trail second team were Kenton Ridge’s Ty Beegle and Bradyen Tosi, London’s Cade Smith and Mason Turvey, Shawnee’s Carson Turner and Tecumseh’s Tyler Dysinger.
The special mention list included Jonathan Alder’s Brandon Gargac and Nick Sowers and Kenton Ridge’s Ryan Dorrell.
Making up the rest of the Mad River division first team were Graham’s Mason Huffman and Grant Woodruff, Urbana’s Tate Armstrong and Northwestern’s Nikolai Mardovin.
Rounding out the Mad River second-team selections were Graham’s Grant Whetstone and Eli Martin and Urbana’s Jack Buckalew and Zach Hoskins.
Receiving special mention were Northwestern’s Noah Jordan and Logan Kibler and Graham’s Brent Case.
Bellefontaine’s Watkins, Ben Logan’s Wesson named CBC golfers of the year
Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan’s girls golf programs continued their dominance in the Central Buckeye Conference this season. The Chieftains won their fifth consecutive Kenton Trail championship, while the Raiders claimed their third straight Mad River title.
Leading the way for their respective squads this fall were Bellefontaine’s Kayla Watkins and Ben Logan’s Sydney Wesson, who both took top honors in the league.
Watkins, who was a Division I regional qualifier, earned the Kenton Trail player of the year award. Wesson, who went on to place ninth at the Division II state tourney, was named the Mad River division player of the year.
Receiving Kenton Trail first-team spots for BHS were Watkins and Madison Taylor, while Anastasia Hiatt was named to the second team. The Chiefs’ Morgan Burden received special mention honors.
Joining Wesson on the Mad River first team were teammate Leeah Valentine along with Indian Lake’s Regan Ross.
Earning spots on the Mad River second team were Ben Logan’s Taylor Lafferty and Willow Titus. Indian Lake’s Kayla Cummins received special mention honors.
Local golfers receiving the sportsmanship award were Bellefontaine’s Burden, Ben Logan’s Wesson and Indian Lake’s Destiny Crumley.
Rounding out the Kenton Trail first-team squad were Jonathan Alder’s Maggie Matessa, Shawnee’s Isabella DeMayo, London’s Kayla Clinger and Tecumseh’s Lyndsey Back.
Filling out the Kenton Trail second-team spots were Jonathan Alder’s Rachel Hooley, Olivia McCoy and Sydney Miller, Shawnee’s Maleah Tucker and Tecumseh’s Elyse Frazier.
Special mention picks also went to Jonathan Alder’s Katie LeMaster, London’s Savannah Comer and Tecumseh’s Evelyn Barber.
Making up the rest of the Mad River division first team were Northwestern’s Callie Langston, Graham’s Morgan Pine and Urbana’s Katie Trudo.
Others on the Mad River second team were Urbana’s Grace Doyle, Gatlin Ridgwell and Stephanie Selvaggio and North Union’s Cami Craft.
Also receiving special mention awards were Urbana’s Morgan Parker and Graham’s Lexi Taylor.
