Health Awareness 5K returns April 21
Nursing staff members reported at the Wednesday afternoon Logan County District Board of Health meeting that the agency is gearing up for its seventh annual Health Awareness 5K Mardi Gras Walk, slated for Saturday, April 21, at Southview Park.
The free walk with the theme “Diabetes Prevention” begins at 9 a.m., with a warmup at 8:45 a.m. No prior registration is required.
Beads will be handed out for each lap completed, and free T-shirts will be given away while supplies last.
Prizes also will be awarded for the best Mardi Gras outfits.
Walk music will be provided by disc jockey Joe Pine.
Heartland of Bellefontaine again is partnering for the walk, and new partner organizations this year include Maple Leaf Family & Sports Medicine and T&L Graphics Screen Printing and Embroidery.
In other nursing matters, Nursing Director Kelly Reaver reported that fortunately, the influenza cases reported in the county finally have started to wane after a very difficult flu season. While there were 12 new influenza cases reported during the month of February, there have been only two cases confirmed since Feb. 22.
A total of 25 Logan County residents reportedly were hospitalized with influenzarelated illnesses from September through April 1.
And although a whooping cough outbreak was reported in Logan County during early February, the last whooping cough case was reported Feb. 21, Reaver related.
