BAHAN |
A local attorney faces a six-month suspension after a disciplinary board found she tried to establish a client-lawyer relationship with Rosalie Kennedy for monetary gain a day after the Rushsylvania woman was arrested for murder on March 10, 2017.
Natalie Bahan, who practices law locally at 118 E. Court Ave., Bellefontaine, and also has an office in Marysville, was referred for discipline after a Logan County judge learned she approached Kennedy and her family about representing the defendant.
The Board of Professional Conduct of the Supreme Court of Ohio made up of three judges released a report this week that found Bahan acted out of selfish reasons, hoping her involvement in the case would help her earn qualification to handle murder cases in the future, and thereby, open the door to high-profile defense cases as a court-appointed public defender.
The board is recommending the supreme court stay the suspension as long as Bahan refrains from further misconduct and she continues to participate in the Ohio Lawyer’s Assistance Program.
She was not retained to represent Kennedy, who was found guilty on Nov. 11, 2017, of shooting and killing her 66-year-old husband, Gary, in their 8100 Township Road 110, Rushsylvania, home.
Kennedy, 64, is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 18 years.
According to the board’s report, Bahan showed she intended to gain financially from representing Kennedy, sending her a bill of $300 for the first unsolicited meeting.
