The Hilliker Y hosts a pretest assessment for candidates for lifeguard classes from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 8.
Various qualifications must be met and include at least 15 years of age, able to swim 300 yards continuously with rhythmic breathing, treat water continuously for a timed event, surface dive to a depth of seven to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick then swim back to a starting point and exit the water without a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds.

All classes must be attended. The cost of $200 for member and $250 for non-members is refundable upon hire plus 80 lifeguard hours worked at the Hilliker Y.
