LeVern “Vern” W. Schwieterman, 90, of Lakeview, OH, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
Vern was born on October 11, 1931, in Coldwater, OH, a son of the late Sylvester and Loretta Bruns Schwieterman. Vern married Kathleen Marie Obringer on January 31, 1959, and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2008. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Schwieterman, Eugene (Kathleen) Schwieterman and Avit Schwieterman, and two brothers-in-law, Vic Poeppelman and Charles Brunswick.
Vern is survived by seven children, Joe (Evelyn) Schwieterman of Lewistown, OH, Brother Jerry Schwieterman of Minster, OH, Beth (Jeff) Codora of Belle Center, OH, Elaine (Gary) Jacobs of Lakeview, Matt (Shannon) Schwieterman of Centennial, CO, Pat (Greg) Martz of Bellefontaine, OH, and Dale Schwieterman of Jackson Center, OH, 13 grandchildren, Nick Schwieterman, Neill Schwieterman, Ellen Schwieterman, Mitch Schwieterman, Blake (Erica) Codora, Tyler Codora, Haley (Jordan) Core, Trevor (Natalie) Jacobs, Erin (Joey) Davidson, Harris Schwieterman, Addi Schwieterman, Monica Martz, and Sam Martz, four great grandchildren, Aaden, Lola, Len, and Sawyer, three sisters, Sylvia Poeppelman of New Bremen, OH, Mary Thelma Hemmelgarn of Portland, IN, and Janet Brunswick of Coldwater, sister-in-law, Nancy Schwieterman of Lakeview and many nieces and nephews.
Vern was a 1949 graduate of St. Henry High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Medical Corp serving during Korea. Vern and his brother, Avit, owned and operated Lakeview Plumbing and Heating from 1957-1980. He was an active member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Russells Point, where he previously served as a eucharistic minister, taught CCD, and served on the parish council and finance committee. Vern was an active member of Knights of Columbus. He was a true believer in volunteering and did so as a youth baseball coach, volunteering at Logan Acres and St. Vincent de Paul. He received the Logan County Senior Citizen Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2011. Vern’s greatest joy came from being with his family, farming and watching EWTN.
Reverend Shawn Landenwitch will begin Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am, Thursday, May 12, at St. Mary of the Woods Church, 464 Madison Ave, Russells Point, OH. Visitation is Wednesday, May 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview and one hour prior to mass at the church. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery with military rites performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
