URBANA – The coronavirus pandemic forced the adjustment of this year’s Logan County Fair harness racing program, but the show did go on.
The two-day harness program was moved from the Logan County Fairgrounds because of virus concerns, with the Champaign County Fairgrounds stepping in to host the event.
Wednesday night’s opener was highlighted by a victory for the LeVan family, a name well known to the local harness racing community.
In the seventh of 13 races, Hank LeVan drove Calvin L to a victory in a 2-year-old colt pace. The horse is owned by LeVan Stables of Woodstock. The winning time was 2:00, which established a new lifetime mark for Calvin L.
Another LeVan horse, J’s On My Feet, finished second in the 10th race, a 2-year-old colt trot. O My Heart, driven by Cameron McCown, won the race in 2:08.
Scott Cisco was the top driver on opening night with three wins. He was victorious with Art Kisser in the third race, Rhythm or Ryan in the fifth race and with Triumphant Prince in the 11th race.
Other winning horses Wednesday were B The Dragon (Brenden Johnson) in the first race, Don’t Forget Yankee (Ed Greeno Jr.) in the second race, Caviar’s Yankee (Greeno Jr.) in the fourth race, Don’t Fire (Jeff Nisonger) in the sixth race, Boom Dynamite (Richard Dingledine) in the eighth race, Bargain Shopper (Johnson) in the ninth race, Shoot The Odds (Alex Hawk) in the 12th race and Section Line Ronnie (Ronnie Gillespie) in the 13th and final race.
Harness racing will conclude with a 12-race schedule this afternoon in Urbana. Post time is 1 p.m.
