Leslie E. Smucker, 67, of East Liberty, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, July 27, 2017, in the Mary Rutan Hospital Emergency Department.
He was born in Bellefontaine on June 15, 1950, to the late Wilbert F. and Emma L. Breneman Smucker. Les was also preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Smucker.
A 1968 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, Les served in the Ohio National Guard from 1970 to 1976. He worked for 35-plus years at Glacier-Daido and was a team leader. In his spare time, Les enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and was an avid Ohio State fan. Family was important to him and he treasured the time they spent together.
Les is survived by his wife, Christina Carpenter Smucker of East Liberty, whom he married May 23, 1970, at Grace Chapel in West Liberty; sons, Jason J. (Amber) Smucker of East Liberty and Noah C. Smucker of Urbana; three grandchildren, Brittany N. Smucker, Alyssa R. (David Miller) Smucker and Savannah B. Smucker; a great-grandson, Ryder A. Miller; brothers, Russ (Linda) Smucker of Zanesville, Ron (Kathleen) Smucker of Galion and Kendal (Gloria) Smucker of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Lorene (Mark) Carpenter of Bellefontaine; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Wayne Downing officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, West Liberty, where visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial is in the East Liberty Cemetery.
