Laura E. Heath, 91, of Cincinnati, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. She was born in Bellefontaine on March 31, 1925. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul Heath, and a granddaughter, Caitlin Heath-Bourne.
As the last of the Miller siblings, she was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Harold, Leo, Elmer, Doit, William, Claire and Don, and four sisters, Luella Corwin, Anna Pusey, Isabel “Peg” Evans and Eunice McMillan.
She is survived by daughters Marilyn (Jim Hambright) Heath of Greenville, S.C., and Julie (David Bourne) Heath of Cincinnati; grandson, Mike (Allison) Heath; granddaughter, Maggie Heath-Bourne; stepgrandsons, Tom and Kevin Bourne and Cameron and Evan Hambright; great-granddaughter, Clara Heath; and dozens of nieces and nephews. She was so warm and generous; strangers became friends in a matter of minutes. She was a working mother, a secretary, in the 1960s, and taught her daughters they could be anything they could dream. She loved the Methodist Church and volunteered countless hours at the churches in Bellefontaine and Detroit, where she lived briefly.
In pick-up backyard baseball games, she played outfield without complaint. She showed her love for her family by baking, firmly believing that sugar should have been featured more prominently in the food pyramid. In her middle years, she took up golf. It was not a natural fit. She beat the game into submission, becoming so good that she had three holes-in-one, and was often asked to play from the white tees when she played with men.
Her favorite thing to do was to laugh. Her love was ferocious, gentle, and unconditional. She was our family’s heart, and we will miss her.
