Cleta Marguerite Calland, 88, of West Liberty, and formerly of Urbana, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2017, at Green Hills Inn.
She was born in St. Paris on April 19, 1928, to the late Verle and Rosella Allebach Everett. She married Kenneth M. Calland on Sept. 26, 1946, in Sidney, and he preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2002. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, Gene Calland; a son-in-law, Douglas Dill; four sisters, Wanda (Ralph) Smail, Norma Lee (Dick) Pine, Arleen (Richard) Baughman and Susan Sterling; and her mother- and father-in-law, Leila and Arthur Calland.
A graduate of Rosewood High School, Marguerite was a homemaker and farm wife. She also worked at Graham North School as a teacher’s aide and in the dietary department at Mercy Hospital in Urbana.
Marguerite was a member of the former Springhills Presbyterian Church where she was active in the United Presbyterian Women’s organization. She treasured her time with her family and always kept in touch with them through cards and letters.
Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Katha Dill of Urbana and Kristi (Dan) Horsley of Payson, Ariz.; sons, Keith (Therese) Calland of DeGraff, Kim (Linda) Calland of Valparaiso, Ind., and Kyler (Robin) Calland of Urbana; 10 grandchildren, Kelly (Chip) Kunkler, Karen (Antony Pimento) Woods, Melanie Blankenship, Michelle (Marc) McGuire, Stacy (Jeremy) Flanagan, Beth (Chris) McCormick, Cory Calland, Kevin (Annette) Dill, Brett (Sally) Calland and Hunter Horsley; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim (Sharon) Everett of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard (Janet) Calland, Martha Hunt, Phillip (Nancy) Calland and Donna Mae (Ernie) Lohnes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Green Hills and Universal Home Health Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.
Pastor Barry Baughman conducts the funeral service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in Foundation Hall at Green Hills Care Center, where calling begins at 1 p.m. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21.
