Larry M. Armstrong, 65, of Lakeview, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 20, 2017, at his home.
Larry was born July 1, 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late John and Betty Dunlavey Armstrong.
On Aug. 22, 1979, he married Carol Gangel in Wichita, Kan., and she survives along with their two sons, Craig (Tiffany) Armstrong of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Travis (Allie) Armstrong of Dublin; his sister, Debra (Dave) Kreitzer of Urbana; a sister-in-law, Mary (Bert) McClard; two brothers-in-law, Fred (Debbie) Gangel and Ron (Debi) Gangel; nieces and nephews, Tish (Jon) Vulgamore, Celeste Gangel, Kristen (Jordan) Brown, Jeremy (Melissa) Kennedy and Keith Gangel; several grandnephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and best friends, Lou and Jeanine Fairfield.
Larry had an AAS in electronic pre-engineering. He retired from General Dynamics Land Systems in Lima after 26 years and worked at WRPO radio station in Russells Point for seven years. Larry was a veteran of the United States Air Force stationed in McConnell AFB, Wichita, Kan., during the end of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and a SAC ICBM Master Technician. Larry was very civic minded and was a member of Citizen Corp Executive Council and CERT. He was a HAM radio operator and member of the Armstrong Scottish Clan Society. Larry enjoyed fishing, coaching and watching soccer, playing golf, cooking and studying genealogy. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandnephews and his canine companion, Molly.
Rev. Mike Phillips will begin funeral services at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, with visitation from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m.. Military Honors will be provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be at a later date in Concord Township Cemetery near St. Paris.
