Fleeing drug offender charged by grand jury
A repeat drug offender who led authorities on a two-county pursuit Nov. 3 faces criminal enterprise charges after a Logan County grand jury handed up a six-count indictment this week.
Kandale L. Harrison, 44, is now charged with aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the first degree with a one-year firearms specification and a major drug offender specification; engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a felony of the first degree; failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a felony of the third degree; having weapons while under disability, a felony of the third degree; tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree; and possession of cocaine, a felony of the fifth degree.
The pursuit started south of Bellefontaine and ended up at state routes 296 and 814 in Champaign County. During the pursuit, the suspect allegedly threw out chunks of methamphetamine in West Liberty; rammed a West Liberty Police Department cruiser; and tossed a firearm from his vehicle on State Route 507 at U.S. Route 68.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office initiated contact with Harrison at Community Health & Wellness, 4879 S. U.S. 68, around 10:35 p.m. Harrison then drove north toward Bellefontaine but would comply with deputies’s orders.
When the pursuit reached Herr Road, deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed stops sticks which flattened the driver’s side front and rear tires of Harrison’s vehicle.
Still, he drove more than two mile on the rims before a deputy used a cruiser to force Harrison’s vehicle to a stop.
He continued to resist authorities and the Logan County Sheriff’s canine unit deployed Thor as part of felony apprehension. Thor bit Harrison in his lower right arm which allowed lawmen to take the suspect into custody.
Harrison had remained lodged in the Logan County Jail since his arrest.
His criminal record in the county dates back to 2013.
