Village Administrator Pat Parish told Lakeview Village Council members during a meeting Monday that he is waiting on a closing date to be set on the purchase of a 2.3-acre tract of former railroad land from DP&L.
The village is buying the property for $1,000 an acre. The purchase will give the village unfettered access to water lines for repairs. Mr. Parish also reported that the work on the alley and the railroad right of way has a tentative start date of Aug. 22.
Village officials continue to consider a joint brush Dumpster project with the Village of Russells Point in which the two entities will share the cost to purchase a receptacle from Roe Transportation at a shared cost of $4,660. Officials first want more information on what items will be allowed to be discarded in the unit that will be housed within a fenced area owned by Russells Point.
Tentatively, residents would purchase recyclable paper bags for disposal of small sticks, brush and grass clippings to be placed curbside for pickup by village employees. When the Dumpster is full, Roe will pick it up for a fee of $250, an additional shared expense. The matter is on hold for more information and discussion.
Emil Davis Park manager Lou Ross is expected to be in attendance at the next council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, to defend his position after council voted 3-2 to hold off on terminating his contract at the end of the season. Mr. Ross reportedly has paid the annual athletic association fee, but fields are not being maintained properly.
Other topics of discussion included solicitors operating without proper village permits; the unfulfilled request for a copy of the Indian Lake EMS by-laws and lack of financial accountability as reported Tuesday in the Examiner, noting the next EMS board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in Russells Point council chambers.
