Indian Lake’s softball team added another statement win Friday in what has already become an impressive 2023 season.
The visiting Lakers piled up 16 hits en route to a 9-6 win over previously unbeaten Jonathan Alder in Central Buckeye Conference action.
The Lakers are now 12-1 overall and 5-1 in the CBC. Jonathan Alder drops to 11-1, 6-1.
“These girls and this team have worked extremely hard to get into a position where they feel they can play with anyone,” said first-year Indian Lake head coach John Stahl.
“I felt confident going into the game, and the girls came out on fire. We had a very difficult inning defensively in the sixth, the sun was terrible on the right side of the field, and we kicked it around a little bit.
“But this team is resilient and and 17 hits off a great pitcher kept us in the game. I am very proud of this team and we need to continue to get better each and every day. I want to give out a big thank you to our fans and the whole Indian Lake community.”
Both teams scored two runs in the first inning for a 2-2 score.
The Lakers took control with two runs in the second, two in the third and two in the top of the fourth for an 8-2 lead.
The Pioneers scored once in the bottom of the fourth and once in the fifth to make it 8-4.
Indian Lake added a run in the sixth for a 9-4 lead.
The Pioneers plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to get within three, but the Lakers held on the rest of the way to get the huge win.
Porscha Davis went 3-4, Hannah Marlow was 2-3 with a double, Madison Brentlinger was 3-5 with a triple and three RBI and Hailee Edwards was 2-4 with an RBI to lead the Indian Lake hitting attack.
Mackenzie Dixon was 2-5 with an RBI and Kayleigh Zedlitz was 2-3 with a double to aid the winning effort.
Brentlinger went the distance in the pitching circle to get the win for the Lakers.
Indian Lake is back in action Monday at Graham.

Chiefs pummel Urbana
Bellefontaine’s softball team had no trouble with host Urbana on Friday as the Chiefs rolled to a 22-0 five-inning win.
The Chiefs are now 6-6 overall and 3-4 in the Central Buckeye Conference. Urbana drops to 1-9, 0-7.
Bellefontaine hammered out 25 hits at the plate.
Ellie Mitchell went 2-3, Rianna Fullerton was 3-4, Addison Wical went 3-5 with a double, Aubrey Hudson was 3-5 with a triple, Averie Vigansky was 2-3 and Emma Crabtree was 3-3 with a double to lead the Chiefs.
Vigansky threw a five-inning perfect game for the Chiefs to get the win.
Bellefontaine travels to Springfield Shawnee on Monday.

Tigers get win over Knights
West Liberty-Salem’s softball team roughed up Greenon 14-4 in six innings Friday in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
The Tigers are now 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the OHC. The Knights fall to 0-8, 0-5.
Kennedy Wallace went the distance in the pitching circle to get the win. She scattered seven hits, allowed three earned runs and struck out seven without walking a batter.
Offensively for WL-S, Kaylee Blair was 2-4 with a double and two RBI, Ava Buck was 2-4 with two RBI, Audrey Collins had a double and an RBI, Brittany Neer was 3-4, Whitney Strapp was 3-4 with a double, two triples and four RBI, Wallace was 3-4 with an RBI and Brooklyn Wilcoxon was 2-4 with two triples and an RBI.
The Tigers travel to Springfield Catholic Central on Monday.

Lakers roll past Wapakoneta
Indian Lake dominated visiting Wapakoneta for an 11-2 non-league win Thursday.
The Redskins led 2-1 after two innings, but the Lakers scored six runs in the third and three in the fourth to lead 10-2.
Indian Lake added another insurance run in the fifth.
The Lakers collected 15 hits at the plate.
Porscha Davis went 4-4 with two triples and three RBI to lead the IL offense.
Also for the Lakers, Hailee Edwards went 2-4, Mackenzie Dixon went 2-4 with a triple and four RBI, Hannah Marlow went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI and Abigail Elliott added a triple.
Madison Brentlinger earned the win in the pitching circe.

Pirates knock off Milton-Union
Riverside’s softball team picked up a win over host Milton-Union in a Three Rivers Conference game Thursday.
It was the first league loss for the Bulldogs, who drops to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the TRC.
Riverside improves to 7-4, 4-1.
Riverside took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and added two runs in the fifth for a 3-0 lead.
The Pirates tacked on two more runs in the seventh to for a 5-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh.
Alaina Snow tossed a two-hitter in the pitching circle for the Pirates. She did not allow an earned run and struck out six while walking none.
Aubree Huston went 3-4 and Taylor Dillon went 2-3 with a home run to spark the Riverside offense. Riley Dillon added a home run and two RBI.
The Pirates are back in action Tuesday at home against Bethel.

Bellefontaine’s softball team beat host Jackson Center 8-1 in a non-league contest Thursday.
Bellefontaine scored four runs in the second inning and four more in the third inning.
Jackson Center scored its lone runs in the sixth.
Averie Vigansky struck out 11 in getting the win in the pitching circle for the Chiefs.
Offensively for the Chiefs, Alexza Clifton was 3-4, Addison Wical was 3-4 with a double, Emma Crabtree was 2-4 and Arianna Young and Ellie Mitchell each had a double.
