Riverside’s girls basketball team fell to undefeated Troy Christian at home on Saturday in a 40-23 non-league loss.
The Pirates slide to 6-5 on the season as the Eagles remain perfect at 9-0.
“I’m proud of the girls’ effort, we just made too many mistakes against a good team,” said RHS head coach Bryce Hodge. “We had too many turnovers and gave up too many offensive rebounds. The girls competed and played hard, we just have to clean up our mistakes.”
Troy Christian took a 14-6 lead after the opening quarter and outscored Riverside 8-7 in the second quarter. That gave the Eagles a 22-13 lead entering the break.
The Pirates could not mount a rally in the second half.
Amber Waters headed the Pirates with 10 points and eight rebounds and Lauryn Sanford added seven points with eight rebounds.
In junior varsity action, Riverside won 22-18. Kaelan Copas led the Pirates with seven points and Alaina Heath had six points.
Riverside hosts Botkins on Thursday for a non-league matchup.
