Bellefontaine’s girls bowling team narrowly survived the cut at the sectional tournament to make Thursday’s Division I district tourney at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek.
The Lady Chiefs, who earned the 10th and final district spot during sectionals, were at their best Thursday, finishing fourth and advancing to next week’s Division I state tournament in Columbus.
The top five teams and top five individuals not on a qualifying team earned state berths.
“I am so proud of the girls and the way they came together as a team,” said BHS head coach Jane Kline. “It was a great day to be a Chieftain.”
Troy won the district title with a 3,827. Butler was second with 3,824, Wilmington finished third with 3,821, the Chiefs shot 3,802 for fourth and Beavercreek was fifth with 3,779.
The format was three regular games and six baker games.
Gracie Hood powered the Chiefs with games of 176, 258 and 234 for a 668 series. Hood had the second-highest series of the tournament to earn a spot on the all-tourney team.
