Kathryn Marie Collum, 70, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Vancrest of Urbana. She was born in Bellefontaine on May 19, 1947, the daughter of the late William V. and Bess Shafer Collum. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Collum; brother-in-law, Robert “Butch” Munz; and a niece, Kristen Munz.
She is survived by her sister, Billie J. Munz of Huntsville; a sister-in-law, Ronda Collum; two aunts, Florence Thobe and Miriam Lescalleet; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathy was one of the original 13 mentally challenged children in Logan County to enroll in a school (her mother was one of the founders) that was started in the basement of the Episcopal Church, Bellefontaine. She later spent the rest of her life as an employee of Ross Training Center until nine years ago, when she lost her vision and most of her hearing. That is when she moved to Urbana and from then on, received wonderful care from all the staff at Vancrest who treated her like family.
Kathy would greet everyone she knew with open arms and give you the biggest hug you’ve ever had in your life (some called it the death hold) and at the same time scream your name so loud it would be heard in another state. She was a blessing to all who knew her and most especially to her sister who would tell you Kathy was the light of her life and she was thankful every day that God gave her this perfect angel.
Private services and burial are in Huntsville Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bellefontaine and online condolences may be expressed at www.edsfh.com.
