A 17-year-old accused of shooting two students Jan. 20 at West Liberty-Salem High School will be tried as an adult now that a Champaign County Juvenile Court judge gave up jurisdiction over the case.
Ely Serna has been held since the shooting on charges of two counts of attempted murder; three counts of felonious assault; six counts of improperly discharging a firearm in a school; and single counts of inducing panic and illegal conveyance of a firearm into a school.
Now, Champaign County Prosecutor Kevin Talibi can present the case to a grand jury and pursue a case in the Champaign County Common Pleas Court.
