Jaunita Ruth Shirk Briscoe, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine.
She was born April 24, 1927, in Zanesfield, the daughter of the late Issac and Sophrona Bell Spencer Akey.
In 1944, she married Dana Shirk and he passed away Jan. 15, 1985. In 2002, she married Bernard Briscoe and he passed away in 2004.
Ruth lived most of her life on the family farm north of East Liberty, and then lived 30-plus years in Florida. She returned to Ohio in 2013. She is survived by three sons, Jim of Bellefontaine, Bob of Michigan, andBill (Jody) of Georgia, granddaughters, Susan Lamson, Brenda (Greg) Lyon, Jean Murray, Sandy (Dave) Stidam and Laura (Danny) Marten of Florida, and their children Danny, Summer and Kristle.
Ruth liked to cook and did so for many big family get-togethers. She cooked at East Liberty School and the restaurant in Zanesfield. She enjoyed many trips to Canada fishing as well as picking morel mushrooms in Michigan and locally.
Her body was cremated, and her cremated remains will be buried in Northfield Cemetery, corner of State Route 292 and County Road with Pastor Ken Neighoff officiating a remembrance service at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, in the cemetery.
