“We told voters we would and it’s time to do it,” he told local Republican leaders during a breakfast gathering. “We need to repeal it and get rid of everything we can and then replace it with a market-driven, patient-driven plan.
“We got tired of waiting, so we introduced our plan last week.”
Conservative lawmakers have drawn up a bill that would achieve those goals and Rep. Jordan expects debates to begin when congress members and senators return to Washington.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is sponsoring the measure in the Senate, while Rep. Mark Sanford, R-S.C., is leading the effort in the House.
Rep. Jordan realizes some GOP leaders are uncomfortable with the bill as they want to keep the Medicaid expansion, create a new entitlement and the “Cadillac Tax” on premium insurance plans.
“We’re going to have some intra-party debate over the bill and then it’s going to hit the House floor,” he said. “I expect the debate is going to get ugly.
“But I hope the leadership can rally around our plan.”
In a nutshell, the conservatives’ plan does away with the individual mandate, allows people to shop for insurance coverage and start up health savings accounts.
