Jon Michael Alspaugh, 57, of Waldoboro, Maine, died Jan. 22, 2017.
He was born in Lansing, Mich., on Jan. 4, 1960, to Richard and Mary Ann Sweeney Alspaugh.
Jon was in the U.S. Army from 1979 to1984 and was a member of the 2nd Ranger Battalion. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Infantry, Airborne and Ranger schools. He was also a graduate of Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
A lifelong fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting, paddling, camping and hiking. He passed on his love of the outdoors to his children. At the time of his death Jon was the environmental compliance manager for the City of Rockland.
Survivors include his wife Erica, of Waldoboro, Maine; daughter Emily (John) Bougher of Columbus; sons, Jacob (Emily) Alspaugh and Andrew Alspaugh, both of Urbana, and David Patterson of Columbus; grandchildren, Eliana and Samuel; siblings, Carol Tuz, Richard (Kerry) Alspaugh, Sharon (Frank) Bustamante, Mary Kay Alspaugh and Martha (David) Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Oak Grove Mennonite Church, 1525 Mennonite Church Road, West Liberty, where family visitation begins at 10 a.m., through arrangements by Hall Funeral Homes in Waldoboro, Maine, where condolences may be extended at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
