While it was not the way she envisioned her senior season ending, former Bellefontaine standout Brenda Johnson is leaving Tiffin University’s women’s track and field program as an All-American.
A senior, Johnson has earned All-American honors in the shot put after the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Association made the decision to hand out the honor to all athletes that qualified to the NCAA Division II indoor national meet. The meet was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Johnson was one of seven Lady Dragons selected as All-Americans. A total of 716 honors were handed out to 117 different institutions.
A senior, Johnson qualified to the national meet in the shot put for the second time in her career. She was ranked fourth in the country and threw a personal best of 15.12 meters. Her and teammate Nicole Berry, who also earned All-American honors, were two of just six Division II throwers to eclipse the 15-meter mark this season.
Johnson initially competed for Lake Erie College after graduating from BHS. She later transferred to Tiffin.
