John Wesley “Wes” Easton, 94, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Logan Acres Care Center.
He was born in Bellefontaine on July 22, 1923, to the late Benjamin and Cora Spurlock Easton.
Wes joined the United States Marine Corps in December 1942 and served in World War II. He received a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained in Saipan.
A union carpenter by trade, he worked for Knowlton Construction Company and Peterson Construction Company. For many springs, Wes and Dixie enjoyed hunting mushrooms in Michigan. Wes enjoyed family gatherings, usually including one of his favorites, homemade cherry pie. He was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. Wes was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, a life member of the Bellefontaine Elks Lodge, member of Harold Kerr American Legion Post 173, Bellefontaine, and a member of the Ohio Masonic Lodge 227 in Findlay.
He also was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Easton, Harry Easton and Louis Emmet Easton; sisters, Thelma Dear, Mildred Keegan, Martha Hinkle and Rose Ellen Easton; and half-brother, Theodore Spurlock.
On May 22, 1948, in Covington, Ky., Wes married Dixie Ann Brugler. After celebrating 64 years of marriage, his wife passed away Aug. 11, 2012.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy L. (Brenda) Easton and Jeffrey J. Easton; grandsons, Wesley E. (April) Easton, Daniel L. Easton and James M. (Abby) Easton; great-grandsons, Gage and Daylon Easton; great-granddaughters, Lauren, Julia and Avery Easton; sister, Betty Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Ron Irick officiates a funeral service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 2. Burial is in the Rushsylvania Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charities of the donors’ choices.
