John W. Hurley, 76, of Lewistown, OH passed away, Sunday morning, February 27, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, OH.
John was born on October 23, 1945, in Bellefontaine, OH, a son of the late Leo D. and Doris E. Troyer Hurley. He married Virginia Bailey on February 8, 1966, and she preceded him in death in 1983.
John married Sue McIntosh on June 7, 1985, and she survives. He is also survived by three children, Rebecca (Brent) Ridder of Plain City, OH, Amy (Spencer) Williams of St. Marys, OH, and Jay (Melissa) Hurley of Huntsville, OH, two stepchildren, Tricia Alloway of Jackson Center, OH, and Terry (Matthew) Randolph of Bremen, IN, seven grandchildren, Zane Reprogle, Tyler Williams, Adison Williams, Makenna Hurley, Rush Hurley, Zachary (Casey) Ridder, and Brock (Jackie) Ridder, five step-grandchildren, Philip (Sara) Davis, Shelby Davis, Heath Elliott, Carolyn Randolph, and Bethany Randolph, two great grandchildren, Callianne Davis and Benjamin Ridder, three siblings, James (Ev) Hurley of Lewistown, Joyce (Todd) Gordon of Huntsville, and Jeanette (Ed) Kaebler of Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.
John was a 1963 graduate of Indian Lake High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during Vietnam. John was a farmer and owned and operated JW Hurley Trucking. He was a member of Amvets, and Ohio State Antique Tractor Pullers Association. John enjoyed farming, driving truck, competing in tractor pulls, watching NASCAR and OSU Buckeyes Basketball, spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Philip Davis will begin funeral services 10:30 am, Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview. Visitation is Friday, March 4th from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery with military rites performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given in John’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Logan County Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors Project, or Amvets.
