Joel Lorenzo Egler, 38, of Bellefontaine, and Charlotte, N.C. passed away peacefully with his wife by his side, hand in hand, on December 2, 2020 at OSU Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.
Joel was born on May 25, 1982 in Columbus, a son of the late Donna Egler Ratliff and Lorenza Morris, who survives in Cartersville, GA. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Lucy, grandmother, Pearline Egler and best friend, James Tanner.
Joel is survived by his loving wife, Catherine “Katie” Egler, his son, PVT Nathaniel “PeeWee” (Hannah) Schmid, USMC, stepsons, Jacob Schmid, and Zachary Schmid, both of Charlotte, siblings, Sean (Erica) Egler of Bellefontaine, Judas (Yvonne) Green of NYC, Paco Morris of Clinton Twp, Mich., Charice (Alan) Biddle of Bellefontaine, Shatoya (Craig) Martin of NYC, stepbrothers, Gavin Howard, Chaston Howard, Chandler Howard, all of Georgia, special brothers, James Mundy, Aaron Berry, Jorrell Johnson, and Joe Clifford, God Mother, Janice Sims, mother-in-law, Tonya Pohlman, father-in-law, Larry Gease, sisters-in-law, Danielle and Renae, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joel loved to make people laugh, he enjoyed fishing, and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Michigan- playing his game. He was outgoing, a free spirit, and was known for his laugh. Joel never knew a stranger and left a lasting impression on all he met.
Pastor Settle Townsend will begin memorial services 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
