James M. Thompson, 75, of Wapakoneta, passed away Friday night, Jan. 29, 2016, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
Born on July 5, 1940, in Marion Township, Hardin County, he was a son of the late Howard and Marjorie Austin Thompson. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Compton and sister-in-law, Rita Thompson.
Survivors include four sons, Michael (Leanne) Thompson of Ridgeway, Mark (Debbie) Thompson of Belle Center, Joseph (Karen) Thompson of Toledo and Wade (Katharine) Thompson of Lima; two daughters, Amber (Brett) Kusmit of Arizona and Channing Thompson of Texas; two stepchildren, Mary (Ryan) Widmark of Wapakoneta and Jake Burton of Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas (Linda) Thompson of Lima, Edwin (Pam) Thompson of Findlay, Brian Thompson of Waynesfield and Jon (Monica) Thompson of Belle Center; three sisters, Marlene (Gordon) Holbrook of Waynesfield, Phyllis (Rex) McKinley of East Liberty and Jenelle Thompson of Roundhead; a brother-in-law, Gene Compton of Roundhead; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a 1958 graduate of Roundhead High School and retired from Ford Lima Engine Plant after 30 years. He also farmed and owned and operated J&L Design in Wapakoneta doing embroidery and screenprinting.
A lifetime member of the NRA, James was an outdoors enthusiast, who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid shooter of sporting clays. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and gun shows.
Pastor David Holbrook officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Burial is in Roundhead Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society; and hospice programs of the donors’ choices.
