With its backcourt in flux because of some disciplinary action, Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team relied on its inside game to carry the load Friday night.

Junior center Spencer George and senior forward Hayes Roebuck answered the call by combining for 29 points and dominating the boards in a 58-39 victory over visiting Springfield Shawnee on Friday.
“We want to help the team in any way we can,” said George, who scored 15 points. “Fighting hard and being aggressive are what we can do best for the team. That’s what we did tonight.”
The Chiefs are now 2-1 overall and start Central Buckeye Conference action at 1-0. The Braves drop to 0-2, 0-1.
Bellefontaine opened the game without two normal starters, but trailed only once early on.
The scored was tied 10-10 at the end of the first period and the Chiefs led 18-16 at halftime.
“This was our best start to a game so far,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Calton. “We came out focused and with good intensity. With great heat comes diamonds, and that is what happened tonight. We had guys step up and fill roles that maybe they weren’t used to filling.
