City safety forces have dealt with four overdoses in a 24-hour period starting Tuesday afternoon as a strong mixture of opioid is making the rounds.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are not sure if they are dealing with heroin laced with fentanyl or carfentanil or pure fentanyl.
That will be determined weeks from now after laboratory testing.
In one case, Kenneth Wilkinson Jr., 30, at large, watched Frank Barnes, 36, at large, snort a line of the white powder drug around 3:50 p.m. and keel over onto the kitchen floor.
Barnes was taken by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital where he was treated.
Within hours, Wilkinson was shooting up from the same source and overdosed, officers report.
He, too, survived with medical treatment after he was found unresponsive in a bathroom at 513 N. Detroit St. around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Betty Jo Dolan, 21, and John Reid, 30, both at large, overdosed around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday while at 1068 Heritage Court.
Dolan was unresponsive and not breathing and transported by a Bellefontaine squad to MRH.
Officers were investigating and observed that Reed was going into distress. A second squad was dispatched to transport Reid, leaving the city department stretched on squad resources and manpower.
Both remain in the MRH intensive care unit.
There are arrest orders for both once they are cleared medically.
Barnes had recently served local jail sentences for misdemeanor assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence.
Wilkinson has past convictions for felony trafficking in heroin, burglary and possession of cocaine.
Dolan is currently charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Reid also faces trial for felony possession of cocaine.
