What does the Light Up the Lake Spectacular fireworks show have in common with Columbus’s Red, White and Boom? Quite a lot, actually. It’s certainly as impressive.
But Indian Lake has something the big city does not: nautical shells. This year’s display will include a nautical effect throughout the presentation.
They’ve also added what’s called a “pyrodome,” which creates a colorful arch that can reach as high as 700 feet.
Prepared and choreographed, once again, by Pyrotecnico from New Castle, Pa., the Light Up the Lake Spectacular promises to be unlike anything most people have seen. Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce President Amber Fagan has spent two years pulling together the money for this event and gathering sponsors. But, she says, it was all worth it for what residents and visitors will experience tonight.
“I love to give the community joy and make people happy,” Fagan said. “And it helps businesses too.”
The team leader from Pyrotecnico, Doug Aller, is from Ohio but lives in Pennsylvania now. They have been onsite getting the show ready for about a week, but it’s been in the planning stages much longer. Set to music, the display has been professionally choreographed.
“Expect this to be bigger, wider and higher than you’ve ever seen,” Aller said.
Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, a large, 8-inch shell will be fired every 10 minutes as a countdown, of sorts. The show will begin at 10 p.m. It’s all electronic and uses satellites to keep everything perfectly timed to the music, which you can hear by tuning into radio stations 98.3 or 93.5. The Light Up the Lake Spectacular is scheduled to last 25 minutes.
RV Wholesalers was the biggest sponsor for this event; the rest are listed on the chamber’s website, visitindianlakeohio.com.
