Indian Lake’s girls basketball team picked up its second win of the season Wednesday after beating Graham 52-39 in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division action.
The Lakers are now 2-12 overall and 2-3 in the CBC Mad River division, while the Falcons slide to 4-7, 2-3.
“We were able to get the lead early and continue to build on that each quarter,” said IL head coach Nick Tucci. “All the girls were able to execute their roles and the results were positive.
“Graham played hard and was able to make a few runs of their own during the game, but we were able to get key stops and make key shots or get to the free-throw line when needed.”
Indian Lake led 12-7 after the first quarter and 19-14 entering halftime.
In the third quarter, Indian Lake edged Graham 15-11 to build a 34-25 advantage. The Lakers locked up the win with an 18-14 effort in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers were sharp from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, making 12-of-16 shots from the charity stripe.
Caylee Wurster fueled the Lakers with 22 points, while Morgan Evilsizor and Nya Worrell both had 12 points.
“Caylee Wurster did an excellent job handling the ball and attacking or shooting when the opportunities arose,” said Tucci. “Morgan Evilsizor did a great job on the boards and making all her free throws. Nya Worrell stepped up huge with her best all-around performance of the year.
“Katelyn Hogan made important free throws and created opportunities for the team on the defensive end of the floor. Kelson Stidam was able to get key steals and rebounds while Mollie Swygart did an excellent job off the bench.”
Indian Lake hosts Benjamin Logan at 1 p.m. Saturday for a local CBC Mad River contest.
