Board vows to work better with auditor’s office
An effort to quell what it maintains is a flow of misinformation prompted the Indian Lake EMS board to announce an upgrade in administration and employee relations Wednesday following a special meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to address, “rumors” and “innuendoes” that recently were made public, board members said while announcing unspecified policy changes to the employee handbook and a statement to staff that, “we’re all in this together.”
Impending, “updates” to personnel policy were announced following an executive session for the purpose of discussing “charges against a public employee.”
The in-private talk lasted about 90 minutes. At one point, employees Josh Strayer and Dave VanHorn were invited into the executive session to speak with the board.
Mr. Strayer and Mr. VanHorn each was notified by text message last weekend that attendance at Wednesday’s meeting was “mandatory.”
Board members would have preferred a June 18 Examiner report of two lay-offs of full-time employees never have been made public. The board rejects any connection to the lay-offs and the overall financial health of the EMS district. Those are the “innuendoes” to which the board refers.
