David A. Fogle, 22, of Cable, was charged with falsification and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs Tuesday evening after his vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole on County Road 32.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a westbound 2007 Chevrolet Silverado about 10:50 p.m. on C.R. 11 near County Road 32 when he traveled off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole. The vehicle continued westbound and left the scene.
Deputies said Fogle had called the sheriff’s office about 10:55 p.m. to report that he had struck a deer. He had parked his vehicle in the area of 6332 W. S.R. 47.
Upon arrival at the C.R. 11 crash scene, deputies said they observed that the Century Link pole had been snapped and a large amount of vehicle debris was at the scene. Deputies observed the grill from a red Chevrolet pickup that matched the description of Fogle’s vehicle.
Deputies said Fogle showed signs of intoxication. They also noticed the wood that was stuck under the front of Fogle’s vehicle that appeared to be part of the utility pole, but no signs to indicate that he had struck a deer, such as blood or hair from the animal on the vehicle. The defendant continued to insist that he struck a deer and not the utility pole.
Deputies also found an open container of alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle.
He submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the Logan County Jail. Deputies said the defendant consented to a breath test, but the machine was not working at the time, and he refused to participate in a urine test.
Fogle was cited for leaving the scene of a crash and failure to control. His vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
Suspected meth seized during traffic stop
Tyler E. Evans, 27, of 201 Maple St., Belle Center, was charged with possession of drugs related to a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in the city.
Deputies reported observed Evans’ vehicle in the area of Ludlow Road and Heritage Drive about 1:50 p.m. and were aware that Evans had an active warrant for trafficking in drugs. A traffic stop was initiated with the assistance of sheriff’s office detectives.
K9 Thor was deployed for a free air sniff of the vehicle and the canine indicated on the vehicle. During a probable cause search, detectives located two baggies with a crystal substance that was suspected as methamphetamine, along with a glass pipe with a suspected meth residue. The total weight of the suspected meth was 3.3 grams, and it will be sent for further testing, deputies said.
Evans was placed under arrest on the drug charge and the warrant and was lodged in the jail.
Man charged with assault
Jacob A. Risner, 26, of Waynesfield, was charged with assault, criminal damaging and criminal trespassing related to an incident Tuesday evening at a Lakeview residence.
Deputies were dispatched about 9:55 p.m. to 9010 Princess Road in reference to an assault. The resident told deputies he had invited Risner and his girlfriend over that evening to drink alcohol, and said toward the end of the evening, Risner became “obnoxiously intoxicated.” A fight then allegedly ensued between Risner and the resident.
Although Risner’s girlfriend had not consumed alcohol since she planned to drive them home, Risner refused to let her drive. He reportedly got into his vehicle and did a “burn out” in the driveway and through the front yard. He returned to the residence a few minutes later, stating he had “wrecked the truck.”
The defendant reportedly attempted to force entry back into the Princess Road home and used so much force hitting the door that he split the top latch of the door. He then left the home a second time.
Risner was located at his residence by Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office deputies and was taken into custody. He was transferred to Logan County deputies and was lodged in the jail.
