The Indian Lake Board of Education recognized student achievements and approved the list of graduating seniors during their May regular meeting Monday evening.
Several Indian Lake High School/Ohio Hi-Point Career Center FFA students were honored were honored for their state achivements. ILHS had a record eight students receive their State FFA Degree this spring. Tori Blanks, Allix Cotterman, Kayla Cummins, Allison Culp, Cheyenne Hill, Luke Jackson, Ethan Knief and Ethan Snapp received certificates of achievement from the board. Allison Kinney and Ava Shroyer were also recognized for their first place finishes in state judging contests.
ILHS Principal Kyle Wagner gave board members details on the upcoming graduation ceremony — slated for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at Laker Stadium — and offered some stats on the Class of 2021.
There are 113 seniors set to graduate, including 19 who were online students this year, four who completed credit recovery to graduate on time or early, and 29 students are also receiving a diploma from Ohio Hi Point Career Center. All graduates will have met Indian Lake High School graduation requirements, not simply State of Ohio recommendations.
Wagner said he is especially proud of his staff this year.
“The high school staff really stepped up this year. From dealing with the challenges of student and staff quarantines and a shortage of subs, they covered for each other and pulled through.”
The ILHS Seniors of the Month from February through May were special guests of Superintendent Rob Underwood. They each spoke about their future goals. Students are: Jacob King and Samantha Swygart (February), Chase Coburn and Raelyn Parsell (March), Brian Downey and Holly Harford (April) and Dustin Franks and Lillian Roby (May).
Also during the meeting, the board extended the following three-year administrative contracts to the following individuals: Ron Borgerding, technology coordinator, with a salary of $71,623.42; Kyle Wagner, high school principal, $91,758.96; Jeff Courter director of athletics/activities, $87,389.40; Meaghen Tidwell, director of special education,; $64,000; Matt Hurley, co-maintenance supervisor; $55,055.37; Dustin Plikerd co-maintenance supervisor, $55,055.37; Susan Young, food service supervisor, $34,817.34; Kourtney Thompson, school nurse; $42,500.
In other action, the board approved, accepted or extended:
• the transfer of Jill Onyema from second-grade teacher to elementary guidance counselor;
• the following contracts to certified staff: continuing — Terry Nelson and Ryan Lillard; three-year — Amber Barnett, Jodi Carder, Alyssa James, Lindsey Ruhe, Kristen Soos, Christina Fullerton, Mike Hunter, Christina Oakley, Richard Yocum; two year — Paige Dukowitz-Holt; and one-year — Jenna Bertke, Katelyn Campbell, Abbie Roe, Karen Cordova, Alice Weygandt;

• resolution authorizing 2021-22 Membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for grades 9-12 and 7-8;
• approved the FFA overnight trip to the Ohio FFA Camp in Muskingum June 7-11;
• approved the 2021-22 Blended Learning Declaration and authorize the Superintendent to submit it to the Ohio Department of Education; and
• approved the 2020-2021 Graduation List as presented, pending completion of all requirements.
The next meeting is 5 p.m. Monday, June 21, in the board office.
