A Thursday evening event and a Saturday, May 12, food drive will help local families meet their food needs.
The Second Harvest Food Bank, which serves Logan, Champaign and Clark counties, organized the annual Empty Bowls event Thursday evening at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center that was expected to raise $10,000 to help feed local residents.
Attendees of the event could choose from 500 bowls made by students at Thelma Matthews’ Cracked Pot Studio, Bellefontaine High School or Springfield High School, which are then filled with unlimited trips through the soup line that featured soups made by nine local restaurants or volunteer groups, Second Harvest Executive Director Tyra Jackson said.
They also had three major corporate sponsors in Honda, Midwest Express and Community Health and Wellness Partners, Jackson said.
