Honda continues to give back to local communities through a partnership with Keep Ohio Beautiful, a three-year project that is benefiting YMCA’s Camp Willson in Bellefontaine.
Saturday, Honda volunteers joined staff from Camp Willson and Keep Ohio Beautiful to complete the final phase of habitat improvement project. The volunteers planted 1,500 native Ohio pollinator plants, including 38 species, to create Camp Willson’s new pollinator garden and habitat.
The goal is to work with a local beekeeper to establish an apiary — a collection of beehives — this summer at the camp, located at 2732 County Road 11.
“On behalf of Keep Ohio Beautiful, we are so pleased to partner with Honda and Camp Willson,” Chris Hoffman, Keep Ohio Beautiful board president, said in a release.
“The staff at Camp Willson had a visionary plan to create the start of three separate natural resource projects. First, a sugarbush, a native Ohio fruit and nut tree arboretum, and this year, a pollinator garden and habitat. These enable them to teach today’s kids and future campers how to steward the land and realize the benefits of sustainable agriculture.
“Together, with the help of many dedicated Honda volunteers, we’ll establish a working ecosystem that will benefit future generations.”
Keep Ohio Beautiful encourages public-private partnerships and the connections that strengthen communities, protect our land and water and improve quality of life.
“Ours is not an isolated mission. It requires diverse partnerships with all community stakeholders. Working together, we can be successful in improving our communities,” representatives said.
In 2019, Keep Ohio Beautiful statewide affiliate network volunteers planted 32,186 trees and 111,435 plants, shrubs, flowers, and bulbs through the mission of empowering Ohio communities to take greater responsibility for improving the local environment through litter prevention, beautification, community greening, waste reduction and recycling.
