The Holland Theatre is preparing for a busy November, with five concerts showcasing a wide range of musical tastes.
The month kicks off with “One Night in Memphis” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3.
The performance re-creates the evening in 1956 when four giants of American music – Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley – jammed together at a Sun Records studio in Memphis.
A tribute to that unforgettable night stars former cast members of the Broadway smash Million Dollar Quartet and features more than 90 minutes of rockabilly, country, gospel and 1950s rock and roll.
Created and directed by John Mueller, One Night in Memphis immerses audience members in the rollicking sounds of a bygone but timeless era.
Next, acclaimed singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Chris Smither and Tim O’Brien with Jan Fabricius bring their roots-influenced music to the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.
Smither has been creating acclaimed folk and blues-influenced music for more than four decades. Also taking the stage will be Grammy winning singer-songwriter O’Brien, a West Virginia native and lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music, and his partner, Fabricius, on harmony vocals and mandolin.
The following weekend, roots troubadour Todd Snider returns to the Holland for an evening of storytelling and songs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.
Snider’s trademark humor, meandering charm and authentic insight delighted an enthusiastic audience in November of 2021.
He has released many acclaimed albums, but is best known for his live shows, as captured on his latest release, Live: Return of the Troubador.
Snider appears with special guest Tommy Prine, a singer-songwriter and youngest son of the legendary John Prine.
Vocal harmony quartet Windborne performs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. The group’s wide repertoire and unique arrangements create a journey that spans continents and centuries and educates as it entertains.
The group is also part of the long tradition of folk musicians championing the oppressed, poor and disenfranchised. Committed to bringing vocal traditions to a younger audience, Windborne has found unexpected viral success on TikTok for such unlikely genres as Corsican polyphony or early 20th century labor anthems.
Finally, Mat Kearney brings his Acoustic Trio Tour to the Holland stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
With five Top 20 hits on the Adult Top 40 charts, Kearney’s thoughtful lyrics and mix of pop, folk, and hip-hop styles have earned him a wide and devoted fan base. (Theater representatives note that this performance is nearly sold out.)
