Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office reported the following Labor Day weekend arrests for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs:
• Ty G. Oakley, 22, of 3232 S. County Road 5, Bellefontaine, was charged with OVI related to a non-injury crash about 3:10 a.m. Monday.
Deputies were first dispatched to Oakley’s address after he reported he had swerved to miss a deer and had heavy damage to his vehicle. While en route to his residence, deputies observed fresh skid marks at 2568 S. C.R. 5 and a vehicle located down an embankment.
When they stopped to check on the vehicle, they located Oakley inside the vehicle and observed that he was unsteady on his feet. Deputies asked him if he needed a squad to check him out, but he said he was not injured.
He admitted to consuming beer that evening, and said he was attempting to drive home when he reportedly swerved to miss a deer on a slight curve and slid off the road into the ditch.
Field sobriety tests were administered, and he was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he submitted to a breath test, with a result of 0.164 blood alcohol content. He also was cited for driving under suspension and failure to control. The defendant had a prior OVI in 2017, deputies said.
• Roy Myers III, 49, of 11023 Shawnee Path, Lakeview, was charged with OVI related to a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of Township Road 293 and north State Route 235 observed his vehicle attempting to make a turn and nearly strike another vehicle that was sitting stationary.
Deputies said the suspect vehicle continued driving left of center and nearly struck the cruiser.
The traffic stop was initiated, and deputies said Myers was slurring his speech and was slow to respond to them. Field sobriety tests were administered, and the defendant admitted to drinking several beers during the day.
En route to the Logan County Jail, he apologized for his actions, stating that he should not have been driving.
• Joshua Broderick, 30, of 249 N. Rushsylvania St., Rushsylvania, was charged with OVI during a traffic stop about 12:40 a.m. Monday.
Deputies on patrol in the 5100 block of State Route 540 observed his vehicle make several marked lanes violations and initiated the stop.
While speaking with Broderick, deputies observed signs of intoxication and field sobriety tests were administered.
He was transported to the jail, where he submitted to a breath test, with two samples of 0.150 blood alcohol content.
He also was cited for a marked lanes violation and was released to a sober driver. Deputies report he had a prior OVI conviction in 2009.
• Kevin L. Hughes Jr., 35, of Trotwood, was charged with OVI during a traffic stop early Monday morning in the area of T.R. 293 and King Road.
Deputies observed a speed violation with his vehicle about 2 a.m. and initiated the stop. He admitted to deputies that he had consumed alcoholic beverages that evening.
Field sobriety tests were conducted. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to submit to a chemical test and also made accusations of deputies, stating that they “had no evidence” and then refused to sign paperwork. He was released to a sober driver.
Hughes had a prior OVI in 2012, deputies said.
