Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 9:20 a.m. Monday to the Bickham Bridge in the area of county roads 38 and 96 in reference to a hit-skip crash that damaged the bridge.
Deputies met with Logan County Engineer Scott Coleman and several of his crew, who reported that it appeared that a vehicle that exceeded the height limit for the bridge of 12 feet 2 inches attempted to cross the structure.
The vehicle reportedly split the cross beam in the middle of the bridge. Trestles underneath the roof were broken loose and decorative side boards also had been split.
Deputies found that cameras installed at the bridge were not working properly at the time of the incident.
Coleman requested extra patrols in the area for box trucks or other vehicles attempting to cross the bridge that exceed the height limit. He indicated that the bridge was deemed structurally sound, and the needed repairs would begin Thursday.
