Cody Arledge 29, of Loveland, Colo., was charged with a felony count of possession of heroin during a traffic stop Monday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 7:20 p.m. in the area of U.S. Route 33 and State Route 708 observed a pickup traveling the road with only one functional headlight and initiated the stop.
While speaking with officers, Arledge advised he was not a valid driver. When asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle, he told officers there was marijuana inside the vehicle. A consent search was conducted and officers located a jar of marijuana, a marijuana pipe and a clear plastic baggie with a brown powdery substance. Officers tested the substance, which tested positive for heroin.
Arledge was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail. He also was cited for driving without an operator’s license.
Russells Point Police Department officers also assisted with the stop.
• Junius Mathison 36, of Darrow, La., was charged with two counts of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance related to a traffic stop Monday evening.
Officers were advised about 9:45 p.m. regarding two vehicles traveling westbound U.S. 33 near Township Road 95 at speeds of 90 miles per hour heading towards Russells Point.
A Russells Point officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicles on State Route 366 near Township Road 94.
Washington Township officers responded and spoke with the driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Mathison. Officers observed the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person and he reportedly admitted drinking vodka prior to the traffic stop.
A vehicle consent search was conducted, where officers located a cup of orange juice and vodka spilling on the floorboard. Officers also located white pills in the center console that were identified as hydrocodone, a schedule II controlled substance.
Oxycodone was recovered as well, also a schedule II controlled substance.
The defendant was placed under arrest and was transported to the jail. He also was cited for open container in a motor vehicle.
• April Powell, 33, of Dayton, was charged with felony drug possession during a Friday evening traffic stop about 8:20 p.m.
Officers observed a vehicle on State Route 235 and State Route 708 that reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign at that intersection and also had a loud exhaust.
Officers initiated the stop and while speaking with the driver, Powell, she advised she had marijuana inside the vehicle.
A consent search was granted and officers located on the driver’s floorboard a burnt marijuana cigarette. On the passenger floorboard, officers seized a baggie containing a white crystal substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers also found a glass methamphetamine pipe, a folded piece of paper with an orange powdery substance, and nine buprenorphine and naloxone pills, a schedule III controlled substance.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the jail.
