Helen Hartman Tetirick died peacefully on April 28, 2018, with her partner in life, Jack Tetirick, with her all the way to the end.
Helen’s journey began Aug. 2, 1925, in the little village of New Paris, Ohio. Her loving parents, Harry and Blossom Hartman, raised four children, Jim, Jane, Joann and Helen on 120 rustic acres in rural Ohio.
Leaving the farm, but carrying the work ethic and values of that life, she attended Ohio State University where she met Jack. After graduating and marrying Jack, she moved to Boston, Mass., where she started her family and began the expression of lovely spirit through the creativity of her artwork. She worked in many mediums, including oils, acrylics, ink, cut paper, pressed flowers and stained glass. She made Christmas cards for her friends for more than 50 years.
Upon returning to Columbus, in addition to raising her family , she was active in many charitable organizations including Beaux Arts of the Columbus Museum of Art, March of Dimes, Project Hope, the Candy Cane Ball of Grant Medical Center and others.
Known as Helen, Mother, Momma T, Granny, Gran and Granny-Granny, there was always room at the table for one, two or three more no matter what time anyone showed up.
Dan, Ruth and Jim always appreciated how welcoming she was to the various crowds they brought through the doorway at the Indian Springs home. Her final years were spent once again in the country at the Snuggery outside Zanesfield. There she returned to her roots cultivating gardens, planting flowers, mowing, lopping unruly brush, picking raspberries, watching bluebirds and deer outside her studio windows and vigorously pursuing the hunt of morels every spring.
She is survived by Jack Tetirick of Columbus; her children, Dan (Melissa) Tetirick of Columbus, Ruth Tetirick of Zanesfield and Jim (Lisa) Tetirick of Zanesfield; grandchildren, J.D. (Sarah) Tetirick, Jesse Tetirick, Kelly (Galen) Freeman, Daniel Tetirick, Laura Tetirick, Colin (Jessica) McNamee and Erin (Alex) Shattuck; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends of Helen and the family are invited to attend an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Clintonville Woman’s Club, 3951 N. High St., Columbus, to celebrate her life.
